D.O.P. Somontano

Somontano of Huesca starts nearby river Flumen and continues to the South East, while Somontano of Barbastro starts at the East. Limited to the North by the Comarcas of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza, to the West with the Comarca Hoya de Huesca, to the Souht with Monegros and to the East with Comarca de La Litera.

Vineyard surface: 4.400 hectares.

Geology: The ranges, the somontano itself, and the plains. Altitudes range from between 350 and 650 meters.

Climate: Cold winters and hot summers with brusque changes in temperatura at the end of the spring and autumn. The average anual temperature is about 11º C. The rain comes in from the North to the South and from the West to the East, which, along with the rise in temperature, increases the plants´need for water. Average annual rainfall is about 500 mm.

Soil: Mainly limestone brown soils on soft materials that allow the penetration of vine roots. Poor fertile soils with an appropriate level of caliza, good permeability and healthy conditions.
